Common Website Mistakes

Lauren Tighe Blog, Content, SEO, Website 2 Comments

We often hear an overwhelming amount of dentists tell us how great their websites are. In reality, all too often, they are outdated.  We live in a world of constant digital changes.  Think about it in terms of the iPhone. The iPhone 3 came out less than 10 years ago. Now, in 2017 we have the iPhone 8 with iPhone X coming soon. Throughout the years, think about how many IOS updates you have installed. If you never installed an update, you wouldn’t have the new features or fix the bugs. Your website is just like that! If you don’t evolve and adapt, your website will not help your dental practice reach the people it needs to reach. Here are three common website mistakes you might be making!

None responsive website can cause your customers to leave your site.

  1. Outdated

Nothing is worse than an outdated site. A website needs constant attention and updates. Whether you have outdated content, images, or designs, you need to stay up with the times! Go through your site and replace old stock images with new ones. Add pictures of your staff and your office. You can even show before and after pictures of your patients! Your site should be clean, like a dentist office. Think in terms of the color white. If you have outdated colors, think about rebranding! Update your website with images, color, design, services, and content! It could be all you need to help your site compete with your competitors!

A non-responsive website can hurt your website numbers.

  1. Not Responsive

Your website needs to be responsive! What does it mean to be responsive? Think of all the ways someone can view your site. They can see it on their mobile phones, tablets, laptops and even desktops – not to mention the different sizes of screens for each of those mediums. A responsive website should be able to adjust to fit whatever medium someone is viewing your site from. When a website is hard to read or not responsive, most likely potential patients will move on to your competitor’s site. Another issue…if you site doesn’t load fast enough! Remember earlier where we touched on updating your site? Your site load time effects whether or not someone will stay and wait or move on! Update your site!

Not adding new content on your website can hurt your search engine rankings.

  1. No New Content

One of the worse things you can do is keep the same content on your site that you have had since the 90’s. Updating your website with fresh content can help keep your site on page 1 of search engines versus falling to page 2 – or worse…page three (Gasp)! Google’s ranking algorithm is made up of over 200 components and is based upon key ranking factors – some of which you will never complete. However, there are a few things you can do to keep your website relevant. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) plays a key factor here.  Also, adding things like backlinks and using quality keywords can help. Utilizing a blog and video content can help as well! Always add new content to your site to keep it updated and relevant!

Fix these common website mistakes and you will be on your way to an updated website that visitors and new patients will love to view. Providing your patients with information presents you as the dental expert in your area!
